Kids Poems

I like myself the way I am. I'm really glad I'm me. In fact, I'm sure there's no one else on earth I'd rather be. I'd rather not be someone else. I wouldn't want to switch, unless they were more beautiful, or powerful, or rich. I only want to be myself. To change would just be wrong, except if they were super smart, or muscular and strong. Unless they were more talented, or glamorous, or tall, or popular, or interesting, I'd never change at all. Except if they were famous or had won the lottery, I'd like to stay the way I am. I'm glad to just be me.

When I was One, I had just begun. When I was Two, I was nearly new. When I was Three I was hardly me. When I was Four, I was not much more. When I was Five, I was just alive. But now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever, So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.

First I saw the white bear, then I saw the black; Then I saw the camel with a hump upon his back; Then I saw the grey wolf, with mutton in his maw; Then I saw the wombat waddle in the straw; Then I saw the elephant a-waving of his trunk; Then I saw the monkeysmercy, how unpleasantly they smelt!

He crept around the kitchen. He crept behind the stairs. He crept along the hallway. He crept upon the chairs. He lurked in every corner. He lurked where he should not. He lurked within the basement. He lurked from spot to spot. He skulked between the bedrooms. He skulked where he could squeeze. He skulked around the garden, But the flowers made him sneeze!

Why is heaven such a doggie-delight?

The good thing 'bout living in an igloo
is your house can never burn down.
And you never have to wash the windows
or vacuum the dirt off the ground.
The bad thing 'bout living in an igloo,
besides being very cold,
is there's no place to plug in a TV
and watching ice melt gets real old.

Had a quarrel,
And the former called the latter
"Little prig.
Bun replied,
"You are doubtless very big;
But all sorts of things and weather
Must be taken in together
To make up a year
And a sphere.

Minty is a naughty kit
Tell her 'stand' - she's sure to sit
She laps up milk without a trace
But give her curds, she'll turn her face!

Fun is something
Grownups never have

The Wedding Doll is very grand
She has her own white wedding stand

& stands very straight in the dining hall
In her dress & her veil & her gloves & all.

But though she's been standing there summer & fall
The bridegroom seems never 2 turn up at all

& sometimes I wonder - What sort of life?
Always the wedding bt never the wife.

Crazy Daisy, grandmother's cat
U never once heard of a cat like dat!

She seems 2 think people are some sort of mice,
A little bit larger but jst as nice;

She seems 2 think people are some sort of food,
A little bit bigger but jst as good.

If Grandma forgets 2 lock her up tight
She jumps on ur foot & takes a big bite.

One time when the meter man came 2 the house
She ate half his shoe jst as if it were mouse.

Wen I was down beside the sea
A wooden spade they gave 2 me

2 dig the sandy shore.
My holes were empty like a cup,

In every hole the sea came up,
Till it could come no more.

Looking at the clouds one day
I saw so many faces

some were ung,some were old,
some were hard 2 tell.

Lying there on my back
the thick grass made a cushion

then those faces lost their places--
the schoolbell broke my spell.
